Hearing Scheduled On Hotel-Motel Tax
The Colville City Council will conduct a hearing tonight at 7 on Councilman Carl Bach’s proposal to increase the city’s hotel-motel tax to promote tourism.
“It’s to test the water,” said Mayor Duane Scott, noting no ordinance has been prepared.
Scott said the most the council could raise the tax on motel bills is to double it from the current 2 percent. At 2 percent, the tax is projected to collect $21,000 this year.
The city couldn’t start collecting any increase in the tax until July, the mayor said.
