Woman Who Feared Losing House Pleads Guilty To 3 Bank Robberies
A north Spokane woman who told authorities she robbed five banks to save her house from foreclosure pleaded guilty Wednesday to three of the robberies.
Lisa Marie Dressel, 32, made a deal with federal prosecutors that resulted in the other two charges being dropped.
She remains under house arrest until a May 22 sentencing date. She faces a sentence of 3 to 4 years in prison.
“I have no comment at this time,” Dressel said as she left the federal courthouse.
Dressel was accused of taking a total of $8,362 in holdups at five Spokane banks, including three that were robbed the morning of Jan. 8.
Dressel confessed to an FBI agent shortly after her arrest that morning, according to court documents.
Dressel and her husband, Mike, who have a young son, were $6,000 behind on their mortgage payments, according to court documents. The house was scheduled for foreclosure the day after her arrest.
The home was auctioned off that day, but the mortgage company that bought it sold it back to the couple for $89,600.
The couple had faced possible eviction by the end of January despite having assets that included two vehicles and rental property estimated at $200,000, court documents showed.
