Backup Computer Generator Wins Vote

From Staff Reports

Rep. Don Pischner’s move to slice money for a backup generator for the state’s main computer system out of the state controller’s budget survived a divided vote Thursday, as the House formally added his amendment to the legislation.

Several steps remain before the decision is final, but the vote on the amendment Thursday was key. With lawmakers trying for adjournment today, there is little time for other maneuvers that could short-circuit the move.

Supporters of the generator said much of the $291,000 cost is for installation, architecture and other changes to allow it to be installed.

Pischner said power failures are rare. The state has an hour’s battery backup power.

“There are no life-threatening matters here,” Pischner told House members Thursday. “This is a funding issue.” , DataTimes
