Olympians Head U.S. Squad

Five members of the 1996 Olympic gold-medal team and college player of the year Chamique Holdsclaw are on the final U.S. squad for this summer’s women’s world basketball championships.

Olympians Jennifer Azzi, Lisa Leslie, Nikki McCray, Dawn Staley and Ruthie Bolton, along with Holdsclaw, a junior from Tennessee, will be joined by six teammates as the U.S. team tries to add the world title to the Olympic gold it won in Atlanta.

Others picked include Edna Campbell, DeLisha Milton, Natalie Williams, Tina Thompson, Katie Smith and Kara Wolters. All except Holdsclaw are playing professionally in the WNBA or the ABL.
