Lewiston Pulls Out 2 Over Cda

Lewiston made the most of its hits while sweeping Friday’s Inland Empire League baseball doubleheader from visiting Coeur d’Alene.

The Bengals (2-0 IEL) won the opener 4-2, scoring three runs in the first inning on just one hit. Sennett Pierce’s bases-clearing double in a four-run fourth guided Lewiston to a 5-4 win in the second game.

Clay Johnson won the opener, striking out eight and walking three. Casey Hoorelbeke (0-1) allowed two earned runs and struck out nine, and Kirk Gosch and Mike Mayton had two hits apiece for CdA (1-2 IEL) in the first game.

Gosch also had two hits in the second game, and added three RBIs off Jeff Wendt. Lewiston scored its fifth run in the fifth, when Scott Scott Wimer singled, stole second base and scored on Clay Stout’s single.

Kris Jeppsen (1-0) pitched a one-hitter and drove in three runs as Lakeland (3-1) defeated visiting Post Falls 12-0 in a non-leaguer.

The Hawks’ Kurt Reese finished 3 for 3, all singles.

Lakeland, of the Intermountain League, has been rough on IEL teams this week, having defeated Lake City 11-0 Wednesday.

Softball

Blake Hoorelbeke pitched a five-hitter as visiting Coeur d’Alene defeated Lewiston 6-0 in the first game of an IEL split.

The Vikings’ Katelyn Tatum supported Hoorelbeke with two hits, including a double.

Lewiston won the second game 4-2, with Naomi Yokomizo pitching a five-hitter and Michelle Bausch doubling and tripling for the Bengals.

Tiffany Hall (3-2) struck out 13 as Lakeland defeated Post Falls 8-3 in a non-leaguer at Rathdrum.

Lakeland’s Casi Reisenauer and Jeri Huber had two RBIs apiece.

Boys soccer

Brian Landers scored two breakaway goals by the 6-minute mark, and finished with three goals and two assists as Lake City (7-0) defeated visiting Lakeland 7-1 in the North Idaho League.

Sam Stroh added two goals, and Carmine Terracciano had one goal and two assists for the Timberwolves. Jeremiah Beckett’s header goal for the Hawks with 4 minutes left was the second score against LC this year.
