At Calgary, Alberta, American Chris Witty broke her own world record in the women’s 1,000 at the world single-distance speed skating championships.

Witty won in a time of 1:14.96, one of four world records set on the day.

The U.S. women’s gymnastics team, which finished sixth at the 1997 World Championships a year after winning Olympic gold, easily beat Romania and China for the International Team Championships at Knoxville, Tenn.

The U.S. scored 152.224, Romania 150.899 and China 150.662.
