If you’re only going to score one basket in a game, you’d best make it count.

Brett Bemis drilled a clutch 3-pointer – his only points of the game – with 15 seconds left Tuesday to lift Lake City to a 53-51 boys basketball win over the Crook County (Ore.) Cowboys in the first round of the Holiday Classic Tournament at West Valley-Yakima High.

Garrett Lambson led the Timberwolves with 12 points, and Ben Widmyer and Kory Kreighbaum each added 10 points.

Three Lake City players fouled out, but Crook County managed to convert just 10 of 29 free-throw attempts.

The Timberwolves (5-3) play Ellensburg today at 2:15 p.m.

Genesee plays the Clark Fork/Rosalia winner at 6. Losers play at 3. … Post Falls Christian 63, Coeur d’Alene “C” 51: The Eagles (7-3) earned the road victory behind the 17 points of Brack Adkins, who added four rebounds and three steals. Tyler Scholler added eight points and seven steals.

Scotties defeat Timberlake

Freeman frolicked to a first-round win in its holiday tournament, stopping Timberlake 83-10. Five Scotties scored in double figures, led by Ashlee Taylor, who shot 8 for 11 from the floor to amass 18 points. Jessie DePell added 14 points. Freeman committed just 11 turnovers and took a 59-30 advantage on the boards.

Genesee 55, Wallace 37: The Bulldogs dominated the boards to earn the first-round win in the Spartan Holiday Classic at Rosalia – taking a 33-15 rebounding advantage. Krista Williams scored 10 points for the Miners, who play Rosalia for third place today at 4:30. Genesee plays Clark Fork at 7:30 in the championship. … Clark Fork 45, Rosalia 43: The Wampus Cats held off a late Rosalia rally to reach the championship game of the Spartan Holiday Classic at Rosalia. Tiffany Van Buren tossed in 16 points to lead Clark Fork, with Rashell Trunnell adding another 13. Clarissa Harston had a dozen points to led the Spartans.

Reardan earns win

Reardan scored a 47-44 win over Columbia-Hunters to reach the championship game of the Lions Club Christmas Tournament at Reardan. Reardan staged a fourth-quarter comeback. Travis Teaford led Reardan with 15 points and converted 5 of 8 from the free-throw line in the fourth quarter to secure the win. Reardan plays Garfield-Palouse in the title game tonight at 7:30.

Curlew 69, Chewelah JV 39: The Cougars built a 36-17 lead at intermission and went on a 22-10 run through the third quarter. Cameron Kroupa poured in 24 points to lead Curlew, hitting 10 of 12 field-goal attempts and grabbing 10 rebounds. Dillon Strandberg added 15 points. … Riverside 47, Darrington 40: The Rams captured third place at the Another Level Christmas Classic tournament at Seattle Christian School. Riverside held the Loggers to 13 first-half points. Pat Smart led the Rams with a 17-point effort. … Kettle Falls 52, Bush 46: The Bulldogs earned a date with the defending State 1A champion Bears in the championship game of the Brewster Christmas Tournament. Kettle Falls held off the Blazers from Seattle from the free-throw line in the final two minutes. Jason Azzarito led Kettle Falls with 15 points.
