Sasquatch open tourney with win

Kyle Janke, Erik Bell and Jordan Hammond combined for 44 points Tuesday night to lift Community Colleges of Spokane to a 79-70 men’s basketball win over Portland CC to open the Spokane Christmas Classic at Spokane CC.

Janke, Bell and Hammond were a combined 18 of 28 from the field while helping the Sasquatch (9-5) shoot 52 percent from the floor.

Janke and Jacob Proctor added seven rebounds apiece to lead CCS to a 44-31 edge. Jeremy Mangum led CCS with 11 assists and three steals.

The Panthers’ Keena Payton hit 7 of 18 3-pointers and scored 31 points.

The tourney continues tonight with Portland vs. Walla Walla at 6 and CCS vs. Lane at 8. WWCC defeated Lane 105-95, as Zach Danelson scored 35 points.

Whitworth 96, Northern British Columbia 52: Jon Young led six players in double figures with 19 points as the Pirates defeated the Timberwolves in an exhibition game at the Whitworth Fieldhouse.

Young shot 7 of 13 from the floor, including 5 of 10 from 3-point range. Bryan Williams added 14 points and game highs of six assists and five steals for the Pirates.

Whitworth reserves Mike Larkin and George Tucker combined for 24 points on 11-for-15 shooting.

Women’s basketball

Dixie State (Utah) 64, CC Spokane 56: Chelsey DeLaMare and reserve Jenna Sawyer combined for 21 points and 17 rebounds while leading the host Rebels past the Sasquatch in an opening-day game at the eight-team Las Vegas Invitational.

The Rebels (11-3) outrebounded CCS 42-28 and finished with a 14-7 edge at the line.

Angie Clift and Abby Shepherd teamed for 23 points for CCS (6-7).
