Blue Jays 5, White Sox 4: At Toronto, Reed Johnson hit a game-winning RBI single in the ninth inning, giving Toronto a victory over Chicago. Terry Adams (3-1) pitched the ninth for the win, and Hudson and Eric Hinske each hit two-run homers off Jon Garland.

Red Sox 7, Royals 6: At Boston, Mark Bellhorn tied the score with a two-run homer in the ninth inning and pinch-hitter Jason Varitek doubled home the winning run, leading Boston over Kansas City.

Tigers 8, Rangers 7: At Arlington, Texas, Ivan Rodriguez hit a two-run, tiebreaking homer in his return to Texas, and Detroit beat the Rangers. Rodriguez, playing against the Rangers for the second time, broke a 5-5 tie with his shot in the eighth off Jeff Nelson (0-3). It was his fifth homer of the season.

Orioles 3, Indians 2 (10): At Baltimore, Larry Bigbie homered off Chad Durbin leading off the 10th inning, giving Baltimore a victory over Cleveland.

Angels 1, Devil Rays 0: At Anaheim, Calif., John Lackey pitched a three-hitter to outduel Mark Hendrickson and David Eckstein had an RBI single to help Anaheim beat Tampa Bay.

Athletics 11, Twins 9 (13): At Oakland, Calif., Eric Byrnes homered with two outs in the bottom of the 13th inning to give Oakland a win over Minnesota.
