Defending champion: West Valley-Spokane

Outlook: West Valley-Yakima had the top three finishers, Michelle Schubert, Chelsea VandeBrake and Stephanie Shuel, in nearly sweeping its district. North Central will challenge for the second berth, led by Mary Graesser. East Valley’s Jo E. Mayer and WV-Spokane’s Larsen Agee are state contenders.

At stake: Two teams and 10 individuals qualify for state.

•4A girls, 11:30 a.m.

Defending champion: Kamiakin

Outlook: The region’s state girls allotment has been reduced by a team. Kamiakin won its district by five points over Eisenhower. Mt. Spokane is the GSL champion. Lewis and Clark and Mead will contend. Mt. Spokane’s Megan O’Reilly and Rogers’ Becca Noble will be challenged by Wenatchee’s Kristen Ballinger and Walla Walla’s Janel Sislow.

At stake: Three teams and 15 individuals qualify for state.

•3A boys, noon

Defending champion: WV-Yakima

Outlook: North Central, ranked No. 1 in state, will be chased by East Valley and Mid-Valley schools Selah and WV-Yakima. EV’s Nick Atwood, Ellensburg’s Joe Darda and Selah’s Gary Lorance will be among the favorites.

At stake: Two teams and 10 individuals qualify for state.

•4A boys, 12:30 p.m.

Defending champion: Eisenhower

Outlook: Ferris is the defending state champion. Eisenhower, second last year, won its district on the 1-2 finish of Robbie Barany and Charles Cummings. Mead and LC will compete for state berths. Mead’s Laef Barnes is among the favorites.

At stake: Four teams and 20 individuals qualify for state.
