Vlahovich hurls 2nd no-hitter

Senior Linse Vlahovich threw a no-hitter Thursday as University moved into a first-place tie in Greater Spokane League softball by posting a 3-0 win at Mead.

Vlahovich (9-1) struck out 12, walked one and hit one batter while recording her second no-hitter of the season.

The Titans (10-1, 10-1) had three of their four hits during a three-run fourth inning. The Panthers (10-3, 9-3) committed two errors during U-Hi’s big inning.

U-Hi tied idle Shadle Park for first place. The leaders play Tuesday at Shadle.

Elsewhere in the league, Lacey Kerr had three hits and Mt. Spokane (10-3, 10-2) scored four runs in the ninth to take a 7-3 win at Central Valley. Mickenzie Alden singled and doubled for the Bears (9-4, 8-4). … Katie Antich had three RBIs, and she and Laura Christianson hit first-inning homers to lift Gonzaga Prep (10-3, 9-3) to a 5-1 win over visiting East Valley (7-6, 6-6). Winner Michelle Tully pitched a five-hitter and struck out four. … Melissa Porter had three hits and Kristen Walker pitched a six-hitter and doubled twice as Lewis and Clark (2-10, 2-10) posted a 7-4 win at Clarkston. Stephanie Ogden and Chelsie Witters homered for the Bantams (4-9, 3-9). … Hailey Bauman finished 4 for 5 with four runs, two RBIs and a homer as visiting West Valley (3-9, 3-8) edged Rogers 16-15. Brittani Scott of the Pirates (5-7, 5-7) went 3 for 5 with a double, a homer and five RBIs. … Cami Hatch and Sharon Hudson were a combined 8 for 8 with six runs as Cheney (3-10, 3-9) registered a 14-5 win at Ferris (0-13, 0-12).

Baseball

Keith Tappe (2-0) pitched a five-inning no-hitter, striking out eight, as Mt. Spokane (11-1, 10-1) maintained first place in the Greater Spokane League with a 10-0 win over visiting East Valley (7-8, 6-7). Tappe walked one and never allowed a ball out of the infield. Cameron Joslyn went 3 for 3 with three runs, Luke Raynor was 2 for 2 with three RBIs, and Mark Purser had a three-run homer and four RBIs for the Wildcats. … Also in the GSL, Chris Bozo struck out seven in 6 1/3 innings, and Chad Berland earned the save with two strikeouts with two runners aboard as second-place Ferris (10-3, 9-2) topped host Lewis and Clark 5-3 at Hart Field. Ferris’ Bud Kittredge hit a solo homer in the second. Brandon Arnold of the Tigers (5-8, 5-6) had an RBI double. … Ryne Kiter went 2 for 4 with two RBIs, including the game-winner, as third-place Shadle Park (9-3, 8-3) recorded a 7-6 win at Mead. Matt Walsh struck out eight for the Panthers (4-7, 4-7). … Kyle Douglas and Billy Karwacki combined for nine hits, and Brendan Cunningham homered in the second game as Gonzaga Prep (6-7, 6-6) posted a 16-10, 8-7 sweep at Clarkston (3-12, 3-11). … Andrew Durant finished 3 for 4 with two RBIs, and Eric Kelly and Levi Horn were both 2 for 2 as Rogers (5-7, 4-7) defeated visiting Cheney 9-3. Trevor Harder of the Blackhawks (2-12, 2-11) went 2 for 2 with two runs. … Central Valley’s game at West Valley was postponed because umpires never showed. The teams will meet at 1 p.m. today at CV for a doubleheader.

Boys soccer

Brady Ostendorf scored three times to guide Riverside (7-3, 6-2) to a 5-0 win over visiting Colville (3-8, 2-6) in the Great Northern League. The Rams’ Cameron Dornquast added a header goal and an assist, both during a 10-minute span of the second half. … Nick DeGraffenreid totaled two goals and three assists, and Ming Fei Wang added three second-half goals as first-place Pullman (10-1, 7-1) rolled to a 9-0 win over visiting Deer Park (3-6, 3-5). … Chris Brickweg’s goal at 10 minutes started Lakeside-Nine Mile Falls (3-7, 2-6) toward a 3-0 win at Chewelah (1-8, 1-6).
