Kindergartner expelled

Compiled from staff reports The Spokesman-Review

A kindergarten student at Greenacres Elementary School has been expelled for the remainder of this school year following an investigation into a Feb. 3 incident in which the student threatened several students with a pocket knife.

The 5-year-old boy was placed on emergency expulsion after he brought a small pocket knife to school and threatened some children on the playground, Central Valley School District officials said.

On Wednesday, Principal Terry Ellifritz converted the emergency expulsion into a long-term suspension, said Melanie Rose, district spokeswoman. It is not known at this time if the boy will return to the school next year, Rose said.

Investigators have completed their look at the accident that killed a Deer Park High School sophomore on Friday.

Levi Morgan, 16, was driving alone in the 35000 block of North Short Road when his 1991 Pontiac left the road and rolled, Spokane County Sheriff’s spokesman Dave Reagan said in a press release.

Investigators determined that Morgan was driving about 85 mph in a 45 mph zone when the crash occurred. Morgan lost control at a slight bend in the road, said Detective Tom Henderson in the press release.

A service honoring Morgan will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Deer Park High School gymnasium.

The family has announced that a scholarship in Morgan’s honor will be created for Deer Park High School students.
