American Legion holiday tourneys under way today

Spokane American Legion baseball will host its annual Senior and Junior Fourth of July tournaments beginning today.

The wood bat Senior tourney runs through Monday, with the championship at 1:30 p.m. at Shadle Park’s Al K. Jackson Field. It will be preceded at 11 a.m. by the game for third and fourth places.

Pool games will be played at Shadle and Whitworth College today and Sunday, and at Shadle and Avista Stadium on Saturday.

Spokane’s Blue Devils and North Stars will join teams from Idaho (Idaho Falls, Post Falls and Sandpoint), Montana (Great Falls and Kalispell), Washington (Everett, Olympia and Puyallup), and from Trail, British Columbia, and El Segundo, Calif.

Spokane Athletic Supply-sponsored Central Valley and West Valley will be host sites for the Junior tournament and are the only Valley teams involved.

The championship game will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday at WV, preceded by the game for third and fourth at 11 a.m.

Four other Spokane league teams – Medical Lake, Mt. Spokane Wild, Kimmel Athletic (Ferris) and North Central – are in the 12-team field with teams from Idaho (Coeur d’Alene and Post Falls) and Washington (Silverdale, Issaquah, Puyallup and West Valley-Yakima).
