Christ Orthodox Church schedules open house

Drivers in the area of 16th and Pines may have noticed changes to a church building there and wondered who moved in.

Now is the time to take a peek inside during the Christ the Savior Orthodox Christian Church open house set for next Saturday.

The church was formed by local members of St. John the Baptist Orthodox Church in Post Falls. They met in homes for a year until purchasing the property on Pines Road in April 2004 and renovating it.

The steeple was replaced with a cupola with a cross on top. Icons, artistic representations of saints, were hung on the walls.

Members raised $100,000 to pay for the changes. Now the church is ready for its public unveiling.

The open house next Saturday will run from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. There will be choir performances of Orthodox hymns at noon, 1 p.m. and 2 p.m.

Anyone who has ever wondered how icons are made may attend an icon painting demonstration at 1:30 p.m.

Baklava, ice cream and other treats will be served.

The afternoon will end with a vespers service at 3 p.m.

The public is welcome to attend all or a portion of the event.

Women’s brunch

A brunch for women dubbed “Beauty in Bloom” will be hosted next Saturday by Eastpoint Church.

The guest speaker is the former Mrs. Idaho, Lonna Vopat, who will speak on “From Maybelline to Maker: Finding Your Beauty in Christ.”

The event will be from 10 a.m. to noon at the church at 15303 E. Sprague Ave. Tickets are $8 each or two for $15.
