Blue Jays 4, Devil Rays 3: At Toronto, Joe Borowski’s wild pitch in the eighth inning allowed the go-ahead run to score as the Blue Jays rallied for a victory over Tampa Bay.

Orioles 7, Red Sox 3: At Boston, the Red Sox’s bats fell flat at Fenway Park for the first time in a month, ending a streak of 14 straight home games with seven runs or more in a loss to Baltimore.

White Sox 9, Tigers 1: At Chicago, Carl Everett and Juan Uribe hit three-run homers, and Freddy Garcia won for the first time since July 31 to lead the White Sox over Detroit.

Indians 6, Twins 1: At Minneapolis, C.C. Sabathia won his sixth straight start by scattering three hits over 7 1/3 innings, spurring Cleveland to a victory over Minnesota.

Rangers 8, Royals 7 (10): At Kansas City, Mo., Rod Barajas homered twice for the second straight game, including a 10th-inning drive that led Texas over the Royals after the Rangers wasted a four-run lead in the ninth.

Athletics 12, Yankees 0: At Oakland, Calif., Scott Hatteberg hit a three-run homer, and Bobby Kielty and Jay Payton also connected while the hard-hitting A’s built an early double-digit lead in a victory over New York. The only other time New York was shut out this year was April 29, when Toronto’s Roy Halladay beat Randy Johnson 2-0.

National League

Cubs 7, Pirates 3: At Pittsburgh, Nomar Garciaparra and Michael Barrett homered in a three-run sixth inning, and Greg Maddux, dominating for five innings but unable to get another out after that, got his 316th career victory as Chicago beat the Pirates.

Phillies 7, Nationals 1: At Washington, Vicente Padilla threw six strong innings to lead Philadelphia to a victory over the Nationals, who fell four games behind the Phillies in the wild-card race.

Marlins 4, Mets 2: At Miami, Dontrelle Willis went 2 for 4 and scored his team’s final run while earning his 19th victory on the mound, pitching into the ninth inning of a win over New York.

Braves 7, Reds 4: At Atlanta, Tim Hudson won his fourth straight start and drove in two runs with his first career triple to highlight a six-run fourth inning, leading the Braves past Cincinnati.

Brewers 12, Padres 2: At Milwaukee, Geoff Jenkins hit a grand slam to cap a seven-run second inning to lead the Brewers to a victory over San Diego.

Astros 6, Cardinals 5 (13): At Houston, Eric Bruntlett hit an RBI single with two outs in the 13th inning and the Astros finally beat Central-leading St. Louis.

Rockies 11, Dodgers 3: At Denver, Todd Helton homered twice and drove in three runs, and Garrett Atkins added a three-run shot to lead Colorado to a victory over Los Angeles.

Giants 6, Diamondbacks 3: At Phoenix, Ray Durham homered and drove in four runs to back a solid outing by Jason Schmidt, and San Francisco beat Arizona.
