U-Hi upends Ferris in volleyball

Central Valley transfer Ashlee Lupfer totaled 12 kills as University routed Ferris 25-16, 25-9, 25-17 in Greater Spokane League high school volleyball action at Ferris Thursday night.

The Titans (2-1, 1-1) got 23 assists from senior setter Kara Crisp. The Saxons fell to 1-1 overall and in league play.

In other GSL action, Mead (2-0, 2-0) cruised past Central Valley (1-1, 1-1) 25-16, 25-10, 25-19 at Mead. … Alisha Shipp tallied 11 kills as Mt. Spokane (2-0, 2-0) swept visiting Lewis and Clark (1-1, 1-1) 25-19, 25-22, 25-13. … Candice Curley had a team-high five kills as Shadle Park (1-1, 1-1) swept past Rogers (0-2, 0-2) 25-8, 25-23, 25-15 at Rogers. … Liz Harden led the way with 24 assists as Gonzaga Prep (2-0, 2-0) held off visiting East Valley (0-2, 0-2) 25-19, 27-25, 25-22. … Mel Dossey had seven kills and 10 aces as West Valley (1-1, 1-1) got a road win by beating Cheney (0-2, 0-2) 25-19, 25-12, 25-11.

Golf

Spokane’s Gene Teigen shot a second straight 73 to move to 2-over-par and into first place after two rounds of the 19th Washington State Senior Amateur Championship at SunLand Golf and Country Club in Sequim, Wash.

Teigen’s total of 146 gives him a four-shot lead over Jamie Kirkebo of Tacoma and Rick Weihe of Bellingham, Wash.

Jim O’Rourke, of Spokane, shot a 79 and is eight shots back at 154. First-round leader Ron Janney of Colbert, Wash., shot an 81 to drop to six shots back at 152.
