Deer Park Eagles holds auction

Lorelei Randazzo Correspondent

Facing a sudden surge in business insurance costs, the Deer Park Eagles Aerie 3564 found a creative way to pay its bills. A sub-group of the club, the CBRV Club, decided to hold an auction.

On March 26, club members assembled donated items to sell. Spokane Auctioneer Monte Holmes volunteered to run the auction of items gathered from the clubhouse and from the members.

Abandoned pool cues, an electronic dartboard, appliances, bicycles, computer equipment along with baked goods brought in more than $3,100, more than enough for the insurance premiums.

The Fraternal Order of Eagles was established in 1898 on the streets of Seattle by a group of theater owners seeking to promote peace, prosperity, gladness and hope. Over the years the group has developed into a national network of thousands of clubs that primarily raises funds for charities, social issues and scholarships.

The Deer Park Eagles Club was formed in 1973 and has a membership of 676 men and 446 in the Women’s Auxiliary – not bad for a town of 3,000. The hall is used frequently for fund-raisers, dinners, dances, as well as sponsoring numerous community activities.

Since it is doubtful the insurance premiums will ever decrease, the group has decided to hold more auctions on a regular basis.
