Top 25 women: Cardinal hold on, upset Sun Devils

Candice Wiggins scored 19 of her 21 points in the second half and No. 14 Stanford (9-3, 4-0) won its 48th straight Pac-10 home game, earning a 77-71 victory over 10th-ranked Arizona State (12-2, 2-1) Saturday night in Stanford, Calif.

Freshman Jayne Apple scored 16 points, hitting several key baskets in crunch time, and grabbed seven rebounds in Stanford’s seventh straight win overall – which also snapped Arizona State’s eight-game winning streak.

(1) Maryland 86, Marist 60: At College Park, Md., newcomer Side Wiley-Gatewood scored eight of her career-high 17 points during a 25-6 first-half run, and the Terrapins (14-0) rolled past the Red Foxes (9-4).

(2) North Carolina 93, Tennessee Tech 52: At Chapel Hill, N.C., Camille Little scored 20 points as the Tar Heels (15-0) beat the Golden Eagles (2-10).

(3) Duke 71, Boston University 43: At Hanover, N.H., Carrem Gay had 22 points and 10 rebounds and the Blue Devils (14-0) beat the Terriers (8-5).

(4) Tennessee 78, Notre Dame 54: At Knoxville, Tenn., Candace Parker had 22 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Lady Vols (12-1) over the Fighting Irish (9-4).

(6) LSU 61, Louisiana Tech 44: At New Orleans, Sylvia Fowles scored 18 points, all in the second half, grabbed nine of her 10 rebounds in the final 20 minutes and the Tigers (13-1) beat the Lady Techsters (5-8).

(8) Oklahoma 80, (22) New Mexico 58: At Oklahoma City, Courtney Paris scored a school-record 43 points and grabbed 25 rebounds, helping the Sooners (10-1) beat the Lobos (10-3).

(9) Baylor 94, Prairie View A&M 50: At Waco, Texas, Bernice Mosby scored 21 points and Latara Darrett added 18 to help the Lady Bears (13-1) wrap up a nearly spotless preseason with a win over the Lady Panthers (2-9).

(11) Georgia 82, Brown 69: At San Diego, Tasha Humphrey scored a season-high 27 points as the Bulldogs (12-2) defeated the Bears (2-10).

(12) Vanderbilt 89, Princeton 74: At Nashville, Tenn., Dee Davis scored 18 points to lead the Commodores (12-1) to a win over the Tigers (5-8).

(18) California 65, Arizona 48: At Berkeley, Calif., Devanei Hampton and Rama N’Diaye keyed a run of 16 consecutive points in the first half and the Golden Bears (10-3) held the Wildcats (6-9) scoreless for more than 7 minutes in the victory.

(19) DePaul 77, Chicago State 71: At Chicago, Caprice Smith had 23 points and nine rebounds to help the Blue Demons (11-3) defeat the Cougars (4-11).

(23) Arkansas 66, Saint Louis 59: At St. Louis, Brittney Vaughn had 13 points, 10 assists and nine rebounds, and the Razorbacks (15-1) overcame an eight-point, second-half deficit to defeat the Billikens (8-6).
