St. John’s Cathedral plans evensong service

The Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist, 127 E. 12th Ave., is offering a choral evensong candlelight service Sunday at 4 p.m.

The cathedral will also be open from 1 to 4 for tours.

The concert will feature the chants, “The Magnificat” and “Nunc Dimittis,” by Philip Moore of York Minster Cathedral and the anthem, “Blessed City, Heavenly Salem,” by Sir Edward C. Bairstow.

St. John’s organist and choirmaster, Janet Satre Ahrend will also perform.

Valentine dinner planned

Mordecai Ministries is hosting a fund-raising Valentine’s Day dinner and dance Tuesday at 6 p.m. at Timberview Christian Fellowship, 15511 N. Howe Road, Mead.

The ministry is a nonprofit group that serves area orphans according to the word of God. The group helps recruit foster and adoptive homes, provides clothing and case management, and develops foster and adoption resources in the Christian community.

The evening will be a 1940s romantic event that will include music by the Brent Edstrom Jazz Combo and a dinner prepared by Rick and Becky Giles. Robyn Nance of KXLY-TV will be the master of ceremonies.

Admission is $25 and child care is available.

Classes and study groups

Ancient Traditions Community Church, 1928 E. Rich Ave., is offering a class to discuss enneagram personality types starting Monday from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. The class will meet on the second Monday of each month.

There is a suggested donation of $5.

The Lutheran Book Parlor, 1414 W. Broadway Ave., and Jubilee Ministries are forming a discussion group based on the book “Sub-Merge” by Ashley Baker and John Hayes.

Academic Preview Night

Parents interested in enrolling their preschoolers and elementary-age children in the Northwest Christian Elementary School are invited to attend Academic Preview Night today at 7 p.m. on the school campus, 1412 W. Central Ave.

The evening will include tours of the campus, classroom displays and the opportunity to meet the teachers and faculty.

Spokane Christian Singles is hosting a speed-dating event Friday for those older than 45, and Saturday for singles in their 20s, 30s and 40s.

Both events will be at 7 p.m. at Colbert Presbyterian Church, 4211 E. Colbert Road, Colbert.
