Yankees 6, Indians 1: Randy Johnson’s encouraging outing ended abruptly when he was ejected for throwing inside as New York beat slumping Cleveland in a testy game at Yankee Stadium. Johnny Damon and Andy Phillips homered for New York, which won its second straight after dropping four in a row.

Blue Jays 6, Orioles 3: At Toronto, Alex Rios, Frank Catalanotto and Vernon Wells homered to lead Toronto past Baltimore.

Rangers 8, White Sox 0: At Arlington, Texas, Hank Blalock – getting a turn as the Rangers’ designated hitter – snapped out of his offensive slump with a homer and an RBI double in Texas’ win over Chicago.

Devil Rays 5, Tigers 1 (12): At Detroit, Jorge Cantu hit a three-run double in the 12th off Todd Jones to help Tampa Bay get the win. Brian Meadows (2-1) threw two scoreless innings to get the win for Tampa Bay, which snapped Detroit’s four-game winning streak.

Royals 4, Angels 3: At Anaheim, Calif., Matt Stairs drove in the go-ahead run with an RBI single in the eighth, Mark Grudzielanek homered, and Mark Redman (3-4) won his third straight start for Kansas City. The win snapped a four-game losing streak by the Royals, who have already had losing streaks of 13, 11 and six.

Twins 8, Red Sox 1: At Minneapolis, Jason Kubel homered again and Justin Morneau hit a grand slam as Minnesota beat Boston.
