East Valley’s boys and girls track and field teams swept team titles Saturday at the season-opening Clarkston Invitational.

The Knight boys scored 138 points, defeating Walla Walla by 22 and Mt. Spokane by 39, despite winning just two events.

Anthony Laborin won the 400 meters for the Knights in 52.3 seconds, while Scott Bunkelman won the long jump with a distance of 20 feet, 9 1/2 inches.

Also for the boys, Anthony Zackery of Ferris earned the 100-200 double, winning the former in 11.28 and the latter in 23.16.

On the girls’ side, EV won five events en route to 125 1/3 points.

Shadle Park finished second with 98 1/2, followed by Mt. Spokane at 88 1/2.

The Knights did their damage off the track, winning five of seven field events.

Eleya Schuerch won a pair of jumps for EV, taking the long jump (16-8 3/4) and triple (34-1), while Lyndzie Johnson won the shot put (36-8 1/2) and discus (114-1).

Megan Como won the javelin for the Knights with a throw of 117-8.

•Kelli Tikker and Ali Forsyth each set school records for Lakeside (Nine Mile Falls), and the Eagle girls won the Othello Relays Invitational.

Tikker set Lakeside’s high jump record at 5-1, leading the Eagles to a second-place team finish in the event.

Forsyth set the school’s pole vault mark at 10-0.

Lakeside’s girls won three events and earned a pair of coed relay victories with the boys, who finished second overall and swept the discus, javelin and shot put team competitions.
