YOUR BEAUTIFUL HOME

Spring flowers bloom in the Marschall and Smith garden under the pergola where the Liberty Lake couple watch birds and enjoy the fruits of their labor.

Like a lot of us, Jack Smith and Valorie Marschall work all week. So when the weekends roll around they like to relax. The couple spends a lot of time in their RV, traveling across the country. But, when the weather is warm, home is just as much fun.

After moving from a downtown Spokane condominium into a 1970s house at Liberty Lake, they updated the interior. “The house had been used as a rental,” Marschall said. “It needed work.”

Next they turned their attention to the exterior. They added new plantings and replaced the small, aging deck at the rear of the house.

Now, when they relax on the arbor bench or have a glass of wine beneath the pergola they had installed last summer, Smith always says the same thing: “Life is good.”

Marschall agrees.

“Between the birds and the flowers and knowing we did this together,” she says, “there’s no place better on earth.”
