Perdido lifts Gonzaga over No. 16 San Francisco

Tyler Perdido scored a goal 56 seconds into the second overtime to give Gonzaga University a 2-1 victory over visiting No. 16 San Francisco in a West Coast Conference men’s soccer match on Sunday.

The win snapped a three-match losing streak for the Bulldogs (7-8-2, 4-5-1 WCC) and was the first win for Gonzaga over the Dons since 2001.

The Bulldogs held a 17-10 shot advantage and Eric Connor recorded six saves in his first appearance of the season.

John Palladino scored the first goal for the Zags early in the second half.

•Whitworth fell to Pacific Lutheran 1-0 in Tacoma.

Goalkeeper Kevin Bostock had five saves for the Pirates.

Second-place Whitworth remains one point ahead of the Lutes in the NWC standings. Puget Sound is in first place, three points ahead of Whitworth.

The Pirates are now 9-5-3 overall and are 8-3-2 in NWC play.

Women’s soccer

The Washington State women’s soccer team took its second conference loss of the season as No. 3 UCLA (16-2-0, 7-0-0 Pac-10) defeated the Cougars 2-0 at Los Angeles.

WSU goalkeeper Brynn Bemis turned in nine saves for the Cougars (8-6-3, 3-2-2), tying her career high. Junior Anna Miller paced the WSU attack with three shots while Allison Scurich and Sasha Baines each contributed one shot.

•Gonzaga was unable to fend off No. 24 Loyola Marymount, falling 1-0 in the Zags’ final home match of the season.

Gonzaga (10-8-1, 3-3-0 WCC) lost despite out-shooting LMU (10-2-5, 2-1-3)15-7.

•Eastern Washington concluded its season with a 1-0 loss to Montana at Cheney, after honoring all eight seniors on the team.

Goalkeeper Tiera Como recorded 10 saves for EWU.

EWU finished 5-13-1 overall and 1-6-0 in the Big Sky Conference.

•Whitworth lost 2-0 to Pacific Lutheran in Tacoma.

Leah Motz recorded three saves for the Pirates.

With the victory, the Lutes improve to 11-5-2 overall and 8-4-2 in conference play.

The Pirates drop to 11-4-2 and 9-4-1 in the NWC.

•Idaho ended its season with a 3-1 loss to visiting Utah State, despite out-shooting the Aggies 17-7 in the second half and 20-14 for the match.

The Vandals finish the season 0-17-2 overall.

•Washington fell to USC 2-0 after failing to attempt a shot in the first half in a Pac-10 match at Los Angeles.

Goalkeeper Kelsey Rasmussen recorded five saves for Washington.

The Huskies lost their fourth straight, falling to 6-12 overall and 1-6 in conference play.

Junior hockey

The Spokane Braves gave up three goals in the first period and were defeated 6-3 by visiting Nelson.

Steven Phillips scored two goals for the Braves and Brandon Lassiter added another score.

The Braves play Friday at Revelstoke.
