Pirates 3, Mets 2: At Pittsburgh, Ronny Paulino hit an RBI double in the bottom of the ninth inning to lead the Pirates over New York.

Braves 2, Marlins 1: At Atlanta, John Smoltz won for the first time in four starts and Marcus Giles had an RBI double in the seventh to help the Braves beat Florida.

Nationals 8, Brewers 5: At Washington, Alfonso Soriano became the fourth player in major league history to join the 40-40 club and the Nationals came out on top of Milwaukee.

Cubs 4, Reds 0: At Chicago, Rich Hill pitched a two-hitter for his first major league shutout, leading the Cubs over Cincinnati.

Cardinals 6, Giants 1: At St. Louis, Chris Carpenter carried a shutout into the eighth inning for his 100th career win, leading the Cardinals over San Francisco.

Phillies 7, Astros 2: At Houston, Cole Hamels pitched hitless ball for 6 2/3 innings and Philadelphia beat the Astros.

Padres 11, Dodgers 2: At Los Angeles, Mike Cameron, Todd Walker and Adrian Gonzalez hit two-run homers in the third and San Diego beat the Dodgers.

Rockies at Diamondbacks, late: At Phoenix, Colorado’s game with Arizona was tied at 6 after 13 innings.
