Marlins 9, Nationals 3: At Washington, Scott Olsen had a double, a single and an RBI, all while taking a two-hit shutout into the sixth inning and helping Florida beat Washington to improve to 2-0 for the second time in their 15 seasons.

Brewers 4, Dodgers 3: At Milwaukee, Kevin Mench hit a go-ahead, two-run homer off Randy Wolf in the sixth inning, sending Milwaukee over Los Angeles. Brewers pitcher Chris Capuano went five innings, giving up five hits and three runs while striking out six and walking two.

Pirates 3, Astros 2: At Houston, Xavier Nady singled home Jason Bay for the go-ahead run off Dan Wheeler and homered for the second straight night, leading Pittsburgh over Houston. Pirates starter Ian Snell struck out a career-high 11 but didn’t get a decision. He gave up Carlos Lee’s RBI single in the sixth that gave Houston a 2-1 lead.

Rockies 4, Diamondbacks 3 (11): At Denver, Troy Tulowitzki doubled in the tying run and scored the winner on third baseman Alberto Callaspo’s error in the 11th inning, and Colorado rallied for a win over Arizona.

Mets 4, Cardinals 1: At St. Louis, Orlando Hernandez threw seven innings of five-hit ball and hit a two-run double that matched his career RBI output to help New York top St. Louis. Hernandez had no strikeouts but was hurt only by Scott Rolen’s homer in the seventh

Padres 7, Giants 0: At San Francisco, Jake Peavy sparkled in six shutout innings and San Diego beat San Francisco, giving rookie skipper Bud Black a win in his debut against predecessor Bruce Bochy. Barry Bonds was 1 for 3 with stolen base.
