Clark Fork’s balance was too much for Mullan, leading the Wampus Cats to a 57-34 1A District I girls basketball playoff win over Mullan at Lakeland on Monday night.

The win sends Clark Fork (7-11) against Kootenai at 6 p.m. Wednesday at Lakeland before Wallace and Lakeside collide at 7:30.

Shaina Gustafson had 16 points to lead three Wampus Cats in double figures and added seven steals and four assists. Bailey Hewitt had 13 points and nine rebounds and Megan Hess 13 points, eight boards and five steals.

Fawn Story led Mullan (1-18), whose season ended, with 17 points.

Boys basketball

Anthony Cranford scored 23 points, getting nine on second chances, to lead Kootenai to a 57-42 North Star League win over visiting Wallace.

Cranford had 10 rebounds, nine on the offensive end, for the Warriors (9-5). Cody Kraack and Frank Donohoe augmented the performance with four steals apiece, and Kraack had four assists and Dononhoe three. Darrick Holmquist had 12 points and five rebounds for Wallace (10-8).
