Report claims Danelo was drunk

Southern California kicker Mario Danelo was drunk when he plunged over a cliff to his death, but the coroner’s office Monday was unable to say why he fell.

A toxicological report accompanying Danelo’s autopsy report found he had a 0.23 blood-alcohol level, nearly three times the legal limit in California. No drugs were detected in his body, the report said.

The autopsy report said the cause of death was multiple traumatic injuries, but “because of the unanswered questions, we are stating the manner of death as undetermined,” deputy medical examiner Jeffrey Gutstadt of the Los Angeles County Coroner’s office wrote in the report.

The 21-year-old player was found Jan. 6 more than 100 feet down a rocky cliff in San Pedro.

Danelo, the son of former Gonzaga Prep, Washington State University and NFL kicker Joe Danelo, made 15 of 16 field goals this season and led the Trojans in scoring with 89 points.

Super Bowl hits No. 3 on charts

Peyton Manning had a lot of witnesses to his soggy super win, with the estimated 93.2 million viewers representing the second most-watched Super Bowl broadcast ever.

Only the 1996 Super Bowl between Dallas and Pittsburgh, which had 94.1 million viewers, had a bigger audience, according to Nielsen Media Research on Monday. Behind that 1996 game and the M*A*S*H series finale, Sunday’s game was the third most-watched program in television history.

The Colts beat the Bears 29-17 in a game played during a driving rainstorm in Miami. Last year’s Super Bowl between Pittsburgh and Seattle drew 90.7 million viewers.

Idaho’s Watson back on team

Senior guard Keoni Watson has been reinstated to the University of Idaho men’s basketball team, according to head coach George Pfeifer.

Watson was suspended Friday “for losing his academic pathway,” Pfeifer said. Watson, whose 17.1-point scoring average leads Idaho and is fourth in the WAC, didn’t play – or attend – Idaho’s 72-70 overtime loss to Fresno State on Saturday at the Cowan Spectrum.

Watson was expected to practice with the team Monday. Idaho visits Boise State on Wednesday.
