Roos’ good works are in the cards

Michael Roos’ road to the NFL started at Eastern Washington and he wants to repay the school as well as children charities.

His first endeavor is the Michael Roos Foundation Dinner, Sports Auction and Poker Tournament, March 10 at Northern Quest Casino.

“I wanted to do something around the Spokane area and I wanted it to benefit Eastern,” he said. “I want people in that area to have a good time, meet some people – Washington athletes and some of my Titans teammates.

“At some point I’ll probably do a golf tournament, but that seems to be the usual thing for people. I wanted to try something different. My wife came up with idea of a poker tournament.”

He’s still getting confirmations but teammates with local ties – Rien Long (Washington State), Benji Olson (Washington) and Peter Sirmon (Oregon) – are committed, along with former Eagles and retired pros Tom Ackerman, Kurt Schulz and Jeff Ogden. Also on the list are ex-Eagle Eric Kimble, now with Miami, retired Seattle Seahawk Kenny Easley and former No. 1 draft pick Steve Emtman from Cheney and the University of Washington.

Titans quarterback Vince Young, the Offensive Rookie of the Year out of Texas, hasn’t confirmed.

Auction items include autographed memorabilia, golf vacations and a special two-night, all-expenses-paid trip for four to Nashville, Tenn.

The recipients of the Nashville trip will stay in the same hotel as the Titans and watch a Titans game from the team’s family section. After the game, Roos will show the recipients some of his favorite Nashville sites.
