Eastern finishes preseason with big win

Joanna Chadd scored 22 points and Brittney Osborn chipped in 20 to lead Eastern Washington to an 84-66 non-conference women’s basketball victory over Portland Sunday afternoon at Cheney.

Sydney Benson (11 points) and Phynique Allen (10) also reached double figures for Eastern, which wraps up the non-conference portion of its schedule with a 5-8 record. The Eagles open Big Sky Conference play at Montana State on Thursday.

Laiken Dollente led the Pilots (8-7) with 17 points, including 11-of-12 shooting from the free throw line. Rachel Stratton added 11 and Anne Graner 10.

Five Eastern Washington players had five or more rebounds – led by Allyson Sievers’ team-high seven – as the Eagles had a 43-38 edge on the boards. Seivers also blocked two shots.

USC 62, Washington St. 56: Eshaya Murphy scored 16 points and pulled down seven rebounds to lead the Trojans to a Pacific-10 Conference victory over the Cougars at Pullman.

Chloe Kerr made 8 of 11 field goals on her way to a team-high 19 points for the Trojans (7-7, 1-3). Jamie Hagiya chipped in 12 points.

Marisa Stotler had 16 points, while Amanda DuRocher and Nakejia Kelly had nine apiece for the Cougars (5-9, 1-3).

WSU plays at Arizona State on Thursday.

Washington 72, UCLA 67: Cameo Hicks scored 22 points and had nine rebounds and the Huskies won their eight straight game overall – 11th straight at home, dating back to last season – in a Pacific-10 Conference victory over the Bruins at Seattle.

Jill Bell came off the bench to score 12 points, pull down eight rebounds and dish off four assists for the Huskies (11-4, 4-0).

The Huskies had a 44-35 rebounding edge, including 23 on the offensive end.

Washington continues to share first place in the Pac-10 with Stanford. The Huskies are 4-0 in conference play for the first time since the 1991-92 season.

UCLA (8-8, 2-2) got 19 points from Noelle Quinn and 18 points from Linsey Pluimer.
