Knox saddles up to lead
Jeb Knox of Prosser, Wash., rode Lacka Wanna Blue to a score of 81 to take the first-day lead in a spirited saddle bronc riding competition on the first night of the three-day Cheney Rodeo.
Frank McKay was second and Cayle Gray of Cheney third.

Golf
Alex Prugh of Spokane reached the quarterfinals of the PNGA Men’s Amateur Championship before losing 3 and 2 to medalist Jake Younan-Wise of Australia at Emerald Valley Golf Club in Creswell, Ore.
Younan-Wise then won his semifinal to set up a 36-hole title match against Patrick Nagle of Pacifica, Calif., today.
•Washington State golfer Amy Eneroth of Colbert lost 3 and 2 to former Gonzaga University golfer Mary Kate Morgan of Longview, Wash., Thursday in the quarterfinals of the PNGA Women’s Amateur Championship at Wenatchee Golf and Country Club. Morgan lost in the semis 2 and 1 to Jessi Gebhardt of Bellingham. Gebhardt lost to Kim Shin of Mill Creek, Wash., 7 and 6 in the 36-hole finale Friday.
Baseball
Doug Cherry, who had two doubles earlier, singled in the 10th and later scored on a teammate’s double as the Bellingham Bulls (10-15 West Coast Collegiate Baseball League) knocked off the visiting Spokane RiverHawks 2-1.
The RiverHawks (8-17) scored in the seventh inning to tie the game on Chris Bozo’s single that brought in Shawn Gizynski.
Kevin Dickey, the second of three Spokane pitchers, struck out eight batters in four innings of one-hit relief.
