Greene powers Indians

The Spokesman-Review

Jonathan Greene went 4 for 5 and drove in four runs to lead the Spokane Indians to an 11-1 Northwest League victory over the Boise Hawks in front of 3,744 fans at Avista Stadium.

Greene fell a double short of hitting for the cycle. He delivered an RBI single in the two-run first inning, an infield single in the third, a leadoff homer in the fifth, and a two-run triple in the eighth.

Boise starter Dustin Sasser labored through six innings, giving up eight earned runs – seven in the first three innings – on 11 hits but did manage five strikeouts against only one walk.

Spokane starter Jason Brigham also went six innings, but with far superior results.

Brigham allowed only two hits and no runs and struck out six with one walk to move his record to 4-1. He lowered his ERA to 1.49.

Boise’s Kyler Burke led off the seventh with his third home run.

First baseman Ian Gac drove in three runs for Spokane with a sacrifice fly in the first and a two-run single in the third.

Spokane (13-19) moved within 2 1/2 games of East Division-leading Boise (16-17).

“The Texas Rangers have assigned supplemental first-round pick pitcher Tommy Hunter (Alabama) to the Indians. He was the 54th selection overall in June’s draft.
