In brief: Expanded use of mansion proposed

The Spokesman-Review

The owner of the Roberts Mansion at 1923 W. Pacific Ave. in Browne’s Addition is seeking a conditional use permit to expand uses at the facility.

A public hearing before the city hearing examiner is set for Aug. 2 at 9 a.m. in the lower level of City Hall, according to a City Hall notice.

Owner Mary Moltke wants to use a residential building at 1928 W. Pacific Ave. as a restaurant with commercial kitchen and to expand the special events facility based at the Roberts Mansion.

The proposal calls for converting the existing apartment house at 1928 W. Pacific Ave. into restaurant seating for 32 people with seasonal seating for 50 or more outdoors.

A duplex building at 105 S. Cannon St. would be converted to accommodate larger indoor gatherings such as wedding receptions for up to 120 guests in conjunction with the landscaped grounds of the mansion. A small enclosed garden would also be permitted to seat 20 more people. No offstreet parking would be added, but the application calls for using nearby larger lots for overflow parking for larger events.
