Field burning

The Spokesman-Review

Field burning in Idaho will soon be here, and the arguments will start.

Some say that in order for the farmers to have good crops every year, they must burn the fields. If they do not do this, they run the risk of having poor crops or crops that do not produce as much or as well.

I say that not only is this polluting our air but it is causing health problems with people. I know that when field burning begins, not only is the air polluted but there are many people who suffer physically from this. I have people in my family who suffer from asthma and when the field burning begins, they cannot be outside. They cannot go out and do the things they want to do without becoming sick or struggling for every breath they take.

If you think that this is not true or not as bad as people say, I have a suggestion for you. Take a small stir straw and try to take a breath through this, and then think about the people that suffer like this every time there is field burning. No one should have to live like this. Let’s stop polluting and let everyone breathe cleanly.
