In brief: Kresge starts quickly, grabs first tour lead

The Spokesman-Review

Cliff Kresge was 8 under through 11 holes Thursday until a few errant drives down the stretch made him settle for a 6-under-par 65 and a two-shot lead in the PODS Championship at Palm Harbor Fla., the first time he has led any round in 114 starts on the PGA Tour.

Aaron Oberholser was joined at 67 by Daniel Chopra and rookies Anthony Kim and Doug LaBelle.

Vijay Singh, the only player from the top 10 in the world ranking at the tournament, was at 70, along with Nissan Open champion Charles Howell III and Sergio Garcia.

Only 27 players broke par.

Details emerge at LSU

LSU women’s basketball coach Pokey Chatman said she won’t coach in the NCAA tournament, and the Times-Picayune of New Orleans reported on its Web site the resignation was prompted by the school’s discovery of inappropriate conduct between Chatman and one or more players.

Assistant coach Bob Starkey, who will take over the team for now, declined to say whether he was aware of any improper conduct.

The Times-Picayune, citing university sources, offered few details, saying it was unclear when the alleged transgressions took place. ESPN.com reported LSU had found out about an improper sexual relationship between Chatman and a former player.
