Girls Scouts seek toy donations

The Girl Scout Troup 2220 in grades one through three at Lidgerwood Elementary School are collecting stuffed animals to give to hospitalized children at Shriners Hospital and the Sacred Heart Children’s Hospital now through Dec. 15.

Christmas Bureau helpers needed

Volunteers are needed for the 2007 Christmas Bureau, a joint effort of Catholic Charities of Spokane, Volunteers of America and The Spokesman-Review.

The bureau provides toys, books and candy to low-income people in the community. Last year, donations to the Christmas Fund, which is operated by The Spokesman-Review to raise money for the bureau, totaled more than $518,000. More than 31,000 people were served in the bureau’s two-week run.

This year’s bureau will open Dec. 8 and close Dec. 21. It will be open 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. every day except Sundays.

Volunteers must be age 16 or older and will be required to attend an orientation lunch Dec. 7 at noon. To volunteer, fill out an application at www.catholiccharitiesspokane.org.

Tinman will show holiday items

The Tinman Gallery, 811 W. Garland Ave., will host a holiday ornament show on Nov. 23 through 25 as the holiday shopping season gets started.

The pieces will range in price from $8 to $150.

Artists will include Steve Adams, new glass; Pat Boyd, new found objects; George Flett, Native American-themed pieces; Patti Osebold, seasonal origami trees; Brenda Everett, one-of-a-kind wood cuts and cards; Dina Fernandez, unique found objects; and Josh Turner, lamp-worked glass.

Whitworth University

Wind Symphony presents concert

The Whitworth University Wind Symphony will present its fall concert Sunday at 3 p.m. in the Cowles Auditorium on the school’s campus, 300 W. Hawthorne Road.

The concert, “Morning Star,” will feature the world premiere of “Sinfonietta for Piano and Wind Symphony,” by Mike Young, “Symphony in B Flat,” by Paul Hindemith and works by Maslanka, Bernstein and more.

Tickets are $5, or free for students and senior citizens. For more information, call 777-3280.
