Siena does it again: upsets Stanford

Josh Duell scored 16 points Saturday to lead Siena over No. 20 Stanford 79-67 at Albany, N.Y., a win reminiscent of the Saints’ stunning victory over the Cardinal in the 1989 NCAA tournament.

Alex Franklin had 14 points and a game-high nine rebounds for Siena. In 1989, a 14th-seeded Siena squad knocked No. 3-seed Stanford out of the NCAA tournament in the first round with an 80-78 win.

Edwin Ubiles scored 11 points for the Saints (2-2).

Kenny Brown had 12 points for Stanford (4-1).

(6) Louisville 104, Hartford 69: At Louisville, Ky., Terrence Williams recorded the third triple-double in Louisville history as the Cardinals (3-0) rolled by the Hawks (1-3) in their season-opener.

(11) Oregon 85, Portland 61: At Portland, Malik Hairston scored 24 points and the Ducks (4-0) beat the Pilots (1-3).

(15) Texas A&M 85, Ouachita 59: At College Station, Texas, Bryan Davis scored 15 points to lead the Aggies (4-0) to a win over the Tigers (0-1).

Virginia 75, (17) Arizona 72: At Tucson, Ariz., Sean Singletary scored 24 points to lead the Cavaliers (3-0) to a victory over the Wildcats (1-1).

(22) Kansas State 77, Western Illinois 64: At Manhattan, Kan., freshman Michael Beasley scored 23 of his 28 points in the second half and had 22 rebounds, lifting the Wildcats (3-0) to a victory over the Leathernecks (1-2).

(23) Southern Illinois 88, Northern Illinois 68: At Carbondale, Ill., Bryan Mullins scored 15 of his 16 points in the first half to help the Salukis (3-0) rout the Huskies (0-4) in their season opener.

(25) Butler 60, Evansville 47: At Evansville, Ind., A.J. Graves scored 22 points to lead the Bulldogs (3-0) to a win over the Aces (0-2).
