Baseball: Yankees try to set up meeting with Rodriguez

Associated Press The Spokesman-Review

The New York Yankees are trying to set up a meeting with Alex Rodriguez while they work on picking a manager.

Rodriguez has until the 10th day after the World Series to decide whether to opt out of his record $252 million, 10-year contract and become a free agent. The Yanks plan to offer him an extension and say they would end talks if Rodriguez opts out.

New York also could select a manager soon, although the team said not to expect an announcement over the weekend. Don Mattingly, Joe Girardi and Tony Pena were interviewed.

Game 2 ratings down

World Series TV ratings for Game 2 dropped despite a new television schedule this year.

Boston’s victory over Colorado on Thursday night got an 11.1 rating and 18 share, Fox said. That’s down 4 percent from the 11.6/18 for Detroit’s win over St. Louis in Game 2 last year, which was played on a Sunday.
