Chiefs stay perfect

The Spokesman-Review

CRANBROOK, British Columbia – Drayson Bowman and the Spokane Chiefs stayed hot despite a week off in the young Western Hockey League season.

Bowman scored a pair of power-play goals in the second period – giving him a league-leading nine points (five goals, four assists) – to spark the Chiefs to a 4-1 victory over the Kootenay Ice (1-4) Saturday night. Spokane is 3-0 for the first time since 2001.

The Ice took a 1-0 lead on a power-play goal by Dustin Sylvester just 1 minute, 8 seconds into the second period.

But the Chiefs bounced back with a pair of man-advantage goals just 39 seconds apart – Bowman at 2:28 and Justin Falk at 3:07 – to take the lead for good.

Bowman capped Spokane’s three-goal second period with a netter at the 12:23 mark.

Spokane’s final goal came off the stick of Seth Compton at the 17:53 mark of the third period.

The Chiefs travel to Everett on Wednesday and Tri-City on Friday before returning to Spokane for their home opener on Saturday against the Americans.
