Cougars’ Sauls will transfer

The Spokesman-Review

Washington State freshman guard Stephen Sauls, following a concussion which ended his season early in January, has been granted a release from the men’s basketball program and plans to transfer to a school that is closer to his hometown in Missouri City, Texas, head coach Tony Bennett announced Wednesday.

Sauls sustained a significant concussion during a practice on Jan. 7 and withdrew from classes and moved back home to get treatment to help control his symptoms. WSU plans to apply to the NCAA for a medical hardship which would give Sauls four more years of eligibility if granted. Sauls health is improving and he is on path for a return to the court.

Sauls appeared in eight games for the Cougars this season, averaging 2.1 points in 6.3 minutes per game.
