In brief: Women’s show, Race for the Cure this weekend

The fourth annual Women’s Show and the Susan B. Komen Race for the Cure will be held this weekend.

The Women’s Show features the Battle of the Chefs, a fashion show, music, dancing and exhibits that include chocolate and wine sampling, gift ideas, hair and makeup ideas and free heart screenings.

The show at the Spokane Convention Center will be Friday from 5 to 9 p.m., Saturday from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Sunday from 7:30 a.m. to noon. Tickets are $5 for adults and free for children 12 and younger.

The Race for the Cure begins at 9 a.m. Sunday and packets for the race are available for pickup during the Women’s Show. The starting line will be outside the Convention Center.

Lilac Century Bike Ride coming up

The 15th annual Lilac Century Bike Ride will be held April 27 at Spokane Falls Community College.

Four courses are available: a 15- or 25-mile family ride; a 50-mile ride or and a 100-mile ride. The ride is for all skill levels.

The event is sponsored by The Aurora Northwest Rotary Club and funds raised from the ride help build Spokane parks, assist single parents and children, support student programs at local high schools, children at risk and bicycle safety programs.

Singing event to feature five area groups

Eastern Washington University will be among the five local colleges and universities to perform at the Inland Northwest Collegiate Choral Festival Monday at 7 p.m. at the Martin Woldson Theater at the Fox, 1001 W. Sprague Ave.

The Madrigal Singers from North Idaho College, choirs from Gonzaga University, Spokane Falls Community College, and Whitworth University, will also be performing.

The festival is free and open to the public.

Sweet Adelines group plans spring tea May 3

Participants are asked to bring their favorite tea cup at the RiversEdge Chorus of Sweet Adelines International Second annual Spring Tea and Fashion Show, May 3 at St. Thomas More Parish, 8112 N. Howard Drive. It starts at noon.

The event is an afternoon of tea, refreshments, entertainment and a fashion show from Chico’s. Wear your favorite hat for a chance to win the prettiest hat contest.

Sneak a peak at parade float

The Spokane Lilac Festival Association will invite the public to view this year’s float Saturday, from 10 a.m. to noon at 901 E. Pacific Ave., and take a behind-the-scenes look at what goes into building a float for the Spokane Lilac Festival Armed Forces Torchlight Parade.

The Annual Spokane Lilac Festival Armed Forces Torchlight Parade will be on May 17.
