Washington Scholars picked

Timothy Matthews of North Central High School, Kirsten Griffing of Ferris High School and Kathryn Reichard of Lewis and Clark High School have been chosen as Washington Scholars for 2008.

The three will receive state scholarships for up to four years of tuition and fees.

Matthews plans to study western civilization, Griffing plans to study music and language education and Reichard wants to study biology.

Abigail Moody of Rogers High School was selected as an alternate.

Fundraising auction

Northwest Christian Schools will present its 15th annual auction, “Building for the Future” Saturday at 4:45 p.m. at the high school, 5104 E. Bernhill Road.

The event will include both silent and live auctions and will include such items as Gonzaga men’s basketball tickets, an Apple iPod Touch, a week’s stay at a vacation home on Lake Pend Oreille and a lawn-care package.

There will also be several raffles, including one for a 42-inch plasma television.

Dinner will be served at the event.

Tickets are $20, and the proceeds will be used to improve technology at the elementary school and the high school, as well as go toward scholarships.

Architectural kudos

The design of the new gymnasium at Ferris High School has been featured in the publication “Learning by Design,” which is published by the National School Board Journal.

The publication showcases over 140 educational facility design projects from kindergarten through 12th grade and at colleges and universities.

NAC Architecture won a Citation of Excellence for the design of the building.
