Summer brings on the Rain

After instant success in the West First Avenue/Davenport Arts District, chef Jason Rex and crew at Scratch, 1007 W. First Ave., took over the neighboring space left vacant by a departing art gallery.

Keeping with the monosyllabic theme, Rain, 1009 W. First Ave., opened in late July to act as the lounge side to the Scratch coin.

Since the two share a kitchen and staff, you’ll recognize a lot of the same favorites from the Scratch menu, such as the light-fried Calamari ($6).

Also available are Frog Legs ($8) and Duck Lettuce Wraps ($8), which begs the question: Where else in town can you pair frog legs and duck lettuce wraps with a martini at midnight on a weekday?

I don’t know, either.

Hours are Mondays through Thursdays, 4 p.m. to close (usually around midnight, depending on business); Fridays and Saturdays, 4 p.m. to 2 a.m. (food sometimes is available later, depending on business).
