43rd time a charm for Texas barrel racer

LAS VEGAS – Barrel racer Brittany Pozzi-Pharr of Victoria, Texas, won for the first time in 43 rounds in the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo on Sunday, taking the fourth go-round with a 13.84-second run — the best so far in the first four rounds.

In steer wrestling, 2006 PRCA champion Dean Gorsuch of Gering, Neb., won for the second consecutive round with a 3.7-second effort.

In saddle bronc riding, Cody Wright of Milford, Utah, won the round with an 88.5 on Sundance. In bareback riding, Kelly Timberman of Mills, Wyo., topped the round with an 87.5 on South Point. In team roping, Jake Stanley of Hermiston, Ore., and Walt Woodard of Stephenville, Texas, finished first in 4.1.

In tie-down roping, Clint Robinson of Spanish Fork, Utah, won with a 7.9.

In bull riding, Bobby Welsh of Gillette, Wyo., won with an 88-point ride on North Star. In all-around, world leader Trevor Brazile of Decatur, Texas, pushed his total to $301,058, the record third straight season he has topped $300,000. Brazile is first in the team roping average and sixth in tie-down average.
