Cook’s 3 lifts WSU

MOSCOW, Idaho – Washington State freshman April Cook connected on only one field goal Sunday against Idaho, but it was the biggest field goal of her career, leading the Cougars to a 53-50 victory over the Vandals at Cowan Spectrum.

With 52 seconds remaining in the game, Idaho’s Charlotte Otero hit a 3-pointer to give the Vandals (3-6) a 50-48 lead. Just 19 seconds later, Cook nailed a 3-pointer of her own, putting the Cougars (6-2) back in front 51-50.

Senior guard Katie Appleton recorded her fourth steal of the game on Idaho’s next possession, and freshman guard Jazmine Perkins added two free throws for the final margin.

Whitworth 77, Walla Walla 46: Natalie Orrell scored 17 points and Cassie Pilkinton added 14 to lead the Pirates past the Wolves at University Place, Wash.

The Pirates are off until Jan. 2, when they will open Northwest Conference play at home against George Fox.
