Post offices open

Nearly all Spokane post offices are operating normally, with the exception of the Main post office on Riverside Avenue. “All our (city) post offices are open,” said Lisa Nystuen, U.S. Postal Service customer relations coordinator for Spokane. Building management decided to keep the downtown office closed a second day for security reasons, said Nystuen, who could not elaborate. Mail delivery is continuing across the area “as normally as we can possibly do it,” she added. Residents not receiving mail on Thursday were in areas where carriers could not drive, or where mailboxes were buried or inaccessible, she said. “It’s important to keep sidewalks clear. If you can’t get to it with your car, they can’t get to it either.” People should not go to their post office for mail, she continued. She said staffing at area post offices is near normal.
