Arrivey highlights meet

Washington State University sophomore Trent Arrivey won the men’s high jump with an NCAA provisional qualifying mark of 7 feet, 1/4 inches to highlight Saturday’s second day of the Cougar Indoor track and field meet in Pullman.

Arrivey’s personal-best height helped the Cougars finish 1-2-3 in the event.

Other Cougar men winners were: Rickey Moody (heptathlon, 5,216 points); Justin Woods (60 meters, 6.84 seconds), Luke Lemenager (800, 1:55.5); Robert Williams (60 hurdles, 8.07); Moreno Zapata (triple jump, 49-3 1/2); and Matt Lamb (shot put, 54-7 1/2).

Cougar women winners were: Collier Lawrence (3,000, 10:13.31); McKinnon Hanson (high jump, 5-6); and Sarah Burns (triple jump, 39-8).

Three Idaho Vandals won titles: Mike Carpenter (men’s pole vault, 15-11); Mykael Bothum (women’s shot put, 48-2 1/2); and Kevin Pabst (men’s long jump, 23-4 1/2).

Eastern Washington University’s Curtis Suver won the men’s 3,000 with a time of 8:24.26.

Next weekend the Cougars will split competitions with a select group competing at the Sevigne Husker Invite in Lincoln, Neb., while the rest of the team will take part in the McDonald’s Collegiate Invite at the Kibbie Dome in Moscow.

Wrestling

The North Idaho Cardinals were dealt a pair of defeats at the Apodaca Dual Showdown in Powell, Wyo.

Iowa Central breezed to a 38-15 victory over the Cardinals and Northwest romped to a 37-5 win in the second match.

Heavyweight Tim Ofield was the lone double-winner for NIC, but both of them were by forfeit.

Dino May (174 pounds, decision) and Stevie Vazquez (184, injury default) posted wins against Iowa Central.
