Huskies handle Hoosiers

Fill-in starter Craig Austrie had 15 points and the Huskies dominated the middle in snapping the Hoosiers’ 13-game winning streak and their 29-game home winning streak with a 68-63 win Saturday over No. 7 Indiana at Bloomington, Indiana.

UConn (14-5) was without starting guard Jerome Dyson and backup Doug Wiggins, who were suspended Friday for violating team rules. So the Huskies relied on power, outscoring the Hoosiers (17-2) 34-16 in the paint and grabbing a 44-28 rebounding edge.

Armon Bassett led Indiana with 18 points and Eric Gordon added 14.

(2) Kansas 84, Nebraska 49: At Lawrence, Kan., Darrell Arthur scored 18 points and Brandon Rush had 17 points and eight rebounds to lead the Jayhawks (20-0, 5-0 Big 12) past the Cornhuskers (11-6, 0-4).

(3) Tennessee 85, Georgia 69: At Knoxville, Tenn., Chris Lofton hit seven 3-pointers and scored a season-high 27 points as the Volunteers (17-2, 4-1 SEC) beat the Bulldogs (11-6, 2-2).

(9) Georgetown 58, West Virginia 57: At Morgantown, W.V., Jessie Sapp hit a 3-pointer with 6 seconds left and Patrick Ewing Jr. blocked Da’Sean Butler’s layup attempt at the buzzer to lift the Hoyas (16-2, 6-1 Big East) past the Mountaineers (15-5, 4-3).

Purdue 60, (11) Wisconsin 56: At West Lafayette, Ind., E’Twaun Moore scored 16 points and the Boilermakers (15-5, 6-1 Big Ten) beat the Badgers (16-3, 6-1).

(12) Texas 73, Texas Tech 47: At Austin, Texas, D.J. Augustin scored 19 points to lead the Longhorns (16-3, 3-1 Big 12) past the Red Raiders (11-8, 2-3).

Rutgers 77, (13) Pittsburgh 64: At Pittsburgh, Corey Chandler and Mike Coburn led Rutgers’ decisive second-half run and the Scarlet Knights (10-11, 2-6 Big East) pulled off the upset over the Panthers (16-4, 4-3).

(15) Butler 73, Ill.-Chicago 57: At Indianapolis, Matt Howard scored 20 points and A.J. Graves added 16 to lead the Bulldogs (19-2, 8-2 Horizon) past the Flames (10-10, 4-5).

Richmond 80, (16) Dayton 63: At Richmond, Va., Dan Geriot and David Gonzalvez combined for 25 points in the first half and the Spiders (10-8, 3-2 Atlantic 10) upset the Flyers (14-4, 2-3).

Mississippi St. 88, (17) Mississippi 68: At Starkville, Miss., Charles Rhodes scored 26 points and Jamont Gordon had 13 as the Bulldogs (14-5, 5-0 SEC) upset the Rebels (15-3, 2-3).

(18) Texas A&M 59, Oklahoma St. 56: At Stillwater, Okla., Dominique Kirk hit the go-ahead free throws with 44 seconds left and the Aggies (16-4, 2-3 Big 12) held on to defeat the Cowboys (10-9, 1-4).

Notre Dame 90, (18) Villanova 80: At Philadelphia, Kyle McAlarney scored 30 points and Luke Harangody had 25 points to lead the Fighting Irish (14-4, 4-2 Big East) to the win over the Wildcats (13-5, 3-4).

(21) Marquette 79, DePaul 71: At Milwaukee, Dominic James scored 19 points to lead the Golden Eagles (14-4, 4-3 Big East) past the Blue Demons (9-10, 4-3).

(22) Drake 58, N. Iowa 54: At Des Moines, Iowa, Klayton Korver scored 23 points on 7-of-8 shooting from 3-point range and the Bulldogs (18-1, 9-0 MVC) defeated the Panthers (12-8, 4-5).

Oklahoma 77, (25) Baylor 71: At Waco, Texas, freshman standout Blake Griffin had 17 points and 15 rebounds to lead the Sooners (14-5, 2-2) past the Bears (16-3, 4-1 Big 12).
