Angels 4, Rays 2: At Anaheim, Calif., Gary Matthews Jr. and Vladimir Guerrero homered, Maicer Izturis hit a go-ahead single and Los Angeles beat Tampa Bay to snap Scott Kazmir’s six-game winning streak. John Lackey allowed two runs and four hits over 71/3 innings, striking out seven and walking two for the Angels.

Tigers 5, White Sox 1: At Detroit, Justin Verlander pitched a four-hitter for his third career complete game and Marcus Thames hit a three-run homer to lift the Tigers to a victory over Chicago. Verlander didn’t walk a batter and struck out three.

Red Sox 6, Orioles 3: At Boston, Bartolo Colon allowed one run and five hits and the Red Sox beat Baltimore. Boston was forced to use Jonathan Papelbon with two outs in the ninth after Mike Timlin allowed two runs on Kevin Millar’s RBI double and a run-scoring error by second baseman Dustin Pedroia.

Twins 8, Indians 5: At Cleveland, Justin Morneau drove in three runs and Jason Kubel hit a home run to help Minnesota defeat the Indians. Nick Blackburn won for the first time since May 16, allowing two runs and seven hits over six innings.

Rangers 11, Royals 5: At Kansas City, Mo., David Murphy hit two home runs, including his first career grand slam, and drove in a career-high five runs to help Texas beat the Royals. Texas trailed 5-1 after six innings, but sent 10 men to the plate in a seven-run seventh.

Athletics 8, Yankees 4: At Oakland, Calif., Jack Cust drove in three runs and the Athletics roughed up Darrell Rasner early to beat New York. Cust hit a two-run single during a six-run burst in the third inning. Every Oakland player reached base and every starter but Travis Buck had a hit.
