Indians pound Emeralds 10-6

The Spokesman-Review

EUGENE, Ore. – The Spokane Indians rode a seven-run, two-homer third inning to a 10-6 Northwest League baseball victory Thursday night for their fourth win in five games against the Eugene Emeralds.

Michael Hollander walked to open the big inning. Zach Zaneski came up with an infield hit and David Paisano followed with an RBI single to left field.

After a fly out, Jaren Bolden lined another single to left to score Zaneski and, on the throw, runners ended up at second and third.

Dennis Guinn brought in another run with a sacrifice fly to right field with Bolden taking third. He scored on Tom Davis’ wild pitch. Pickett than followed with his second homer of the season and, after Matthew West singled, Joe Butler hit his first homer to drive Davis from the game.

With Matt Means taking over on the mound for Eugene, Hollander then came up as the 10th batter of the inning and flew out to center fielder Dan Robertson to end the inning.

The Indians added three more runs the following inning with the help of Justin Pickett’s two-run single. Spokane almost needed those runs as the Emeralds scored in each of the final four innings.

Pickett, the designated hitter, finished with three RBIs. Bolden and Buter had two RBIs each. West was the leading hitter, going 3 for 5.

All that offense was backed up by a solid effort from starting pitcher Wilfredo Boscan (3-0), who went 52/3 innings, giving up six hits and one run.

The Indians, tied for first in the East, open a three-game set against Tri-City tonight at 6:30 at Avista Stadium.
