Cheney to play for 4th

TACOMA – Cheney High School will need to create a little room in the trophy case.

Griffin Jones and Daniel Igbinoba scored 12 points apiece to lead the Blackhawks (18-8) to a 59-49 consolation semifinal victory over the River Ridge Hawks (18-8) Friday at the Tacoma Dome.

With the win, Cheney will play today against the Lynden Lions (18-8) for fourth and seventh places.

Lynden defeated Clarkston 55-43 in the other consolation semifinal.

Brandon Hardie and D’Angelo Jones chipped in 11 points apiece for Cheney.

The Blackhawks came up big in the first and third quarters, outscoring the Hawks 26-13 in those periods. Cheney led 23-21 at halftime.

Maurice Bouchet had 12 points and Dontavious Fleming 11 for River Ridge.

Lynden 55, Clarkston 43: Adam DeLange scored 20 points and Trenton McKee had 17 to lead the Lions past the Bantams (17-8).

Don Perconti scored 12 points and Drew Hansen had 10 for Clarkston, which ended its season.

The Lions led 26-22 at halftime and increased their lead to 37-29 after three periods.

“Ephrata (24-2) will meet Burlington-Edison (24-2) for the state championship at 7 tonight.
